Working Together

The DMV develops, administers, and enforces the vehicular laws of the District with an emphasis on driver education and customer service.

Other District agencies work together with the DMV to make the city a clean, safe, and efficient area for transportation.

Working together with the DMV are other District Agencies whose mission is common to that of the DMV.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) manages and maintains public areas and transportation facilities, collects and disposes waste, and retrieves and sells abandoned vehicles. The District’s Department of Transportation (DDOT) plans, designs, constructs, and maintains the District's roadways, alleys, sidewalks, bridges, and traffic signals. DDOT also regulates parking, including parking permit zones, by developing parking regulates. If you have questions about any of these items, please contact DDOT directly.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPDC) protects District residents from crime, fear of crime, and general disorder and establishes trust and respect within the community. MPD also regulates parking and vehicular traffic by issuing parking and moving violation tickets. Additionally, MPD manages the District’s photo radar and enforcement program.
