Valid Identification
The residency requirements
for registration and driver’s licenses are the same. DC
residents must register their vehicles in DC and their driver's license,
if any, must be a DC license.
You must have one
of the following documents for each owner:
Note: If you are mailing your duplicate vehicle title request,
please include a copy of the valid DC driver's license OR learner's
permit OR non-driver's ID card for each owner.
If applicant
does not own the vehicle, the following documents are required:
- Vehicle Power
of Attorney*.
- A copy of the vehicle owner's DC driver's license,
DC learner's permit, or DC identification card.
- Valid DC or out of
state driver's license, learner's permit, or identification card
of the person processing the transaction.
If you possess an out-of-state driver's license and would like
to register your vehicle in DC, you must convert to
a DC driver's license prior to registering your vehicle.
